Marion Durham

Head Coach

Head Coach, Marion Durham competes in the E Group in the Masters Championships which puts her somewhere between 45 and 49! She has been Head Coach at St. Thomas since March 2004.
Before coming to St. Thomas she was the assistant coach at City of Dundee and helped out at Monifieth where she began her Masters swimming. Marion holds an ASA Coach Certificate, a Level 1 Tutors Certificate and can run CPD sessions; she has just sat her Level 1 Disability exam as well. Marion has been a Squad Coach on Scottish Swimming’s Flying Start/ Academy Programme and is the Head Coach of Angus Area Squad along with Anne Birchall of Montrose, she also assists with the District Regional Squads.

Within St. Thomas her duties include:
• Preparation and implementation of the annual plan (as determined by individual needs and potential of swimmers).
• Liaison with all coaching volunteers within the club.
• Consultation with assistant coach with reference to the annual plan for Junior and Intermediate squads.
• Working with the swimming committee to ensure continuity in delivery of all lessons.
• Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of all coaching and teaching programmes.


Out with St. Thomas, Marion can also be found working in various school nurseries across Angus in her other role as an Early Years Practitioner. When Marion has time she also fits in the occasional coffee, training session and visits to Waterstone’s or Ottakers! She hopes to publish a semi-autobiographical book entitled ‘How to spin 1,000,000 Plates Simultaneously’ soon.


Marion has been around for ever and is currently the oldest competitive swimmer in the club. In her early years as an advocate for woman’s rights she crossed the Alps with Hannibal and his elephants. Later she worked as a maidservant in the medieval court
