Club
Championship Finals
On
Saturday at Arbroath Sports Centre, St Thomas swimmers
competed in the annual Age Group Championships.
There
were a number of closely contested races, particularly
in the 14 and over boys’ age group where the top
three swimmers were separated by a mere 2 points. Indeed
the competition was so keenly contested that there were
an unprecedented number of ties for the medal positions.
The
medal winners from each age group were as follows:

As
well as rewarding those who swam successfully on the
night, a number of special awards were handed out in
recognition of the success enjoyed by the club throughout
2005. The Swimmer of the Year and recipient of the Grace
Kinnear Trophy was Darryl Pace; Darryl qualified for
the British Nationals this year and also represented
Scotland at the Schools International Meet in Ponds
Forge, Sheffield. The winners of the club’s Most
Improved Award were Louise Taylor and Paul Reid; both
of whom have gained times for Scottish Swimming’s
new Performance Squads.
The
Squad Swimmer of the Year trophies are awarded to those
swimmers who have shown commitment throughout the year
by attending training regularly and competing for the
club in various galas. This years recipients were Daryll
Young and Liam Anderson for the Bleue Merit Trophy and
Jan Ramsay and Michael McGuire for the Laing Trophy.
Jennifer Hannah and Adam Burgess were also prize winners
as a result of being the youngest participating swimmers
at the Championships; both received a goodie bag from
the club swim shop. There were also trophies awarded
to the 11/12 Girls Age groups from the Premier and 2nd
Division teams. Both teams won their section within
their respective leagues.
Shona
Haxton, Kitty Bates and Lesley Smith also received a
basket of flowers in recognition for their service to
the club, while Stewart Davidson’s election as
Honorary President was recognised also.
