Teaching
Groups
(Learn to Swim program)
Aims
and Objectives
There are
eight levels within the Scottish learn to swim program
and when each level is past the swimmer will be awarded
a certificate an badge. There is also a progress award
that can be awarded if a swimmer does not pass the appropriate
level after a block of work but has made significant
progress to achieving the award
The achievement of each award is a significant step
for a swimmer. For a beginner to put their face in the
water and blow bubbles for five seconds is as significant
a step as a level 8 swimmer mastering a grab start.
The
criteria for each of the awards have been set by the
Scottish Amateur Swimming Association (SASA), the National
Governing Body for swimming in Scotland and provide
a common standard throughout the country. Those who
achieve all 8 awards will have developed a wide range
of skills and will be competent on all of the four recognised
swimming strokes. This foundation will assist those
who wish to develop their swimming in the competitive
environment, those who wish to explore aquatic opportunities
and those who wish to swim for fitness or recreation.
